In the classes, Dan teaches the vigorous Astanga flow thoroughly and in depth, and yet he makes it approachable to everyone by working with each student at their level. Everyone leaves the week feeling reinvigorated, fulfilled, and motivated to keep up the yoga practice.
Dan is also a very passionate and skilled hypnotherapist and meditation teacher, so his voice will soothe you during the practice and then relax you deeply at the end of the practice, taking you into a journey of deep calmness and inspiration. And not to be forgotten… Dan is also an amazing guitar player, which will come in handy around the campfire, under a starry night.
All our yoga holidays are designed for all levels. As on other weeks, there is one session in the morning and one late-afternoon.
Dan Levitas is Astanga Yoga, living and breathing.
His body is strong, toned, flexible and powerful. He is agile and muscled in a way that few are. Nobody has been able to work out what age he is, but he's suggested we'd be surprised. Recently, through an Italian guest, we have discovered the existence of a group of secretly adoring fans from a Florentine school of Astanga (with a poster of him on the wall of the studio)
And yet the man is one of the most gentle, soft and kind you'll ever come across. He mixes the rigorous deep and detailed teaching of Astanga, which he loves and practises continuously, with a beautiful understanding of life as meditation. Within the physical work of the yoga, people will also find with Dan a place of beautiful stillness.
Astanga yoga is a system developed by Sri K Pattabhi Jois, involving synchronising the breath with a progressive series of postures. This vigorous system detoxifies muscles and organs, improves circulation and creates a light, strong body and calm mind.
